OSX 10.5 freezes 5 secs every 5 mins

Anyone else here having this annoying problem?

Since installing 10.5 (fresh - wiped drive) onto my intel iMac (20" 18 months Core Duo 2GHz, 2Gb RAM) - OSX seems to freeze for about 5 seconds every 5-6 minutes.

I notice it mostly when I am playing World of Warcraft but I do see it in other programs like watching a video podcast - or even just typing the screen seems to lock up for a few seconds.

In Warcraft the video freezes for a few seconds and the audio sounds like a skipping CD until it goes back to normal.

I have checked the WOW forums and there are lots of people reporting similar issues on a variety of machines - G4/G5 to latest iMac. They also notice it on other programs when your looking for it - the one constant seems to be OSX 10.5.

Normally I doubt most people would notice it - but its a real pain at the moment.

All software updates applied of course.

Any HELP ? Much appreciated.

I suggest it may be a problem with WOW not Leopard. I find Leopard extremely smooth and responsive. i don't play WOW. (or even know what it is?)

Wasn't a problem before I installed 10.5.

As I said in the OP, I also notice it in other programs, Warcraft is just an obvious one. But sometimes when typing the test locks for a second or two, or a page might stop scrolling for a second. As its only for a few seconds every 5 mins you hardly notice it. It only becomes evident in something like Warcraft as your doing something 100% of the time, not passively reading a page or something.

99% of the time Leopard has been great, just this one little bug thats annoying me.

It's a game you play online, but the game itself is installed on the computer.

That's the same with me - even with normal safari browsing.

Erm what do u mean by Console?

Iwas running the Activity Monitor, and initially it looked like mdworker (spotlight i beleive) was the culprit.

But once Spotlight settled down, the freezing still continues with nothing else popping to the top of the Activity Monitor to highlight itself.

You may need to wait for an update then. Have you contacted the developers or made enquiries along those lines.

Seems to me most people experiencing problems with Leopard, are reporting problems with third party applications. I deleted a couple of third party apps after installing Leopard, as they where behaving strangley, Skim for one, and waited for updates before reinstalling. Skim developers took about a week to get their act together, others still have not done so.

Perhaps you could delete the game, play patience/Solitaire for a couple of weeks, then try again.

console is empty currawong. There are none of the usual hints as to what the problem might be.

It doesn't only happen in Warcraft either. It happened to me just now with safari and iTunes.

I had this issue, I did a bit of researching and found that it is most likely the driver for the airport card, could be something else too. I reset the PRAM on my MBP and it fixed it, happened again, reset the PRAM again and has been all good for a while now

The iMac isn't connected wirelessly though - its connected directly to the Airport Extreme (new one) via cable.
