2 Reasons. ....That ugly little duck, plus a desire to use the prefered Apple chat client!

I never actually liked the Adium interface as well as the ugly duck. I have gernally only had 1 account and that is MSN. I like the way iChat looks and am finding the jabber Transport to be very reliable. It wasnt that hard to set up..

My gf will soon be getting a MacBook and a .Mac account so we will be using iChat to video chat etc. and I now I can have my MSN contacts on that program as well. I like it

Great work, Andrew! I begrudgingly use MSN, but am slowly converting the people I actually talk to, to GTalk anyway

Would you be able to upload your emoticon pack for MSN and any plist and instructions, please?

Any news on getting iChat to display the nicknames? Cheers!

or if MSN is the ONLY protocol you use, get aMSN because its closest in function (and form) to the real one.

now with webcam support.

Thanks

I will try and get the emoticon pack up asap. How did it work for you silverdreamer? All running ok? I hadnt tested it off my machine.

Personally, I find aMSN to run like a dog with no legs. Very slow and buggy. Webcam seemed it would be faster if I drove to my friends house to see them face to face as well....

As requested, here are the MSN smilies. Sorry for the dodge hosting, couldn't find anywhere else really. Hopefully it all works fine.

I am going to look into the name issue over the next week possibly. For now I am just adding their name by clicking get info for the contact, sometimes works out better than massive, stupid MSN names stealing screen real estate!

These are the actual smiley images as a zip:

http://www.mediafire.com/?9nyhm1bz1tj

This is the modified plist file you will need:

http://www.mediafire.com/?7dmgtt9tmmg

Now, the instructions to get it working:

Navigate to the applications folder in Finder

Right click iChat and select 'show package contents' > Contents

Select the folder called Resources and BACK IT UP. Just copy it to somewhere else on your computer so you can just replace the original folder if for some reason my files don't work.

Now open the Resources folder and find all the the old iChat smilies and delete them EXCEPT the love heart...for some reason I forgot to replace this one, so just leave it but be sure to delete all other files or you may have a problem later on with the smilies not showing up in the little smiley box I have found.

Copy all of the smilies in the zip into this folder

After the new smilies (from my .zip file) have been placed in this folder, find the folder within the resources folder named 'English'.

Find the file named 'SmileyTable.plist'

Delete this file and replace it with mine.

Restart iChat and you should see the smilies there, the keyboard shortcuts for iChat will still work but the MSN shortcuts will also work, meaning you can send MSN smilies to users using MSN and they will see them as you do and they can send you their native MSN smilies and you will see them exactly or very close to what they are sending.

Enjoy! Let me know how it goes!

hey guys, back to the psi method and everything

hen you sign into psi, down the bottom is says "xxx events" or something like that, rightclick, customise toolbar, and one of the options is "auto-authorize contacts"

quit psi and restart

sorry if its been posted before, andrew.wilson you could add that into the original post

Tim
