So i wanted to do a clean install of leopard. I backed all the users on my computer up onto an external. Somewhere along the way whilst transferring the data (in the middle of the night) the power supply in the external died wich in turn deleted the partion that particular users data was on. Long story short i need an app to recover my data. iv been using the app data 'Data Rescue 2' in the past but i found it to be slow and unorganised. What apps do you recommend? i would prefer a free one but don't mind dolling out a reasonable price. Only thing is i want it ASAP!!!

I had a HDD failure and took it to my local Apple reseller. Located nearby was a data recovery specialist to whom I was referred. Given that your HDD is in good working order, the recovery should be a no brainer. You won't need to pay more than $100 but the process, which is largely automated, will take hours. Bring along a spare external HDD of equal or greater size as they might prefer to copy the image straight to that instead of repairing the HDD.

I'm assuming your local reseller has such a local contact. Data recovery is quite a common need. If you are quoted business rates of $1000 then look elsewhere.
