Rant about Leopard UI and Users

Okay, I am yet to install the GM of Leopard, but have been playing around with the latest builds and I think Apple have done a really good job on the new Interface, especially the refined Desktop.

But suddenly everywhere I turn, whether it be on this forum, or a news site, all I see are new hacks to make the dock darker and get rid of the semi - transparent menu bar etc. What's the point of upgrading to Leopard if half of the elements you see you want reverted back to what you what you were used to?

Life goes on, and things change. If we don't ease into new styles and ideas in the future, where are we going to go?? No where!

Anyway, just my $0.02 worth.
What are your thoughts?

Ricky.

dock and menubar are just the things users see most of the time and some users don't like change...

i like the transparent menu bar, you get some level of effects from your desktop picture, and it looks much smoother...

the stage dock is surely just personal preference and you can kill it in terminal anyway...

leopard is good...

That sort of eye of the beholder stuff is not the major issue with Leopard. At least you can get around it if it annoys you.

Its more how the change to using folders in the dock is a backward step.

At least many of the other 298 changes are much more worthwhile.

The 'upgrades' apple have made don't aide usability. For a company so tied up with HIG and GUI.

Users are rightly pissed off that Apple has made changes for change's sake - the silly dock is higher and takes up more space than the tiger dock at the same sized icons, the menu bar is marginally harder to read, and Stacks have all sorts of behavioural problems.

however, there are many improvements to the UI, however some very questionable decisions made with regard to dock, menu bar and stacks. (Outlined deeper in the Ars review)

Come on Apple, leave that cheesy, cheesy, cheesy and pathetic attempt at 3D to lesser OSs

autohide the dock? *tissue*

im sick of people complaining about the UI too ... the complaint that really makes me laugh is ... the rounded corners (or lack there of) on the menu bar! COME ON! its hardly noticeable!

There are lots of good interface changes in 10.5 where usability has actually been improved (finder for example) but the dock and menubar are not examples of that. The dock and menubar are just gui changes that make no difference to usability really and if anything maybe they make it a little worse(but i still love them anyway ).
