slow connection to windows box via airport

Hi guys and gals,
I am trying to copy files across from my XP box to the imac and its incredibly slow. I'm getting average speed of 100kb/s . Surely this can't be as fast is it will go.
The XP box has a d-link 802.11g wireless card in it and the imac is using its airport. Both connect back to the airport express.

edit: delete : repeated myself

Does anyone have any ideas please on what I can do to increase the speed.

Does the same problem occur if you're using a wired connection?

Haven't tried that as I don't have long enough cables, and packing up the xp box to move it is a major pain in the #$%^. I forgot how much crap hangs off the back of that box

I'm having a similar connection with Leopard streaming video to my XBMC. My MacPro is connected to a gigabit switch which connects to my XBoxMediaCentre over Cat5 cable. I have a folder shared (SMB) on my Mac Pro which I connect to via the XBox. The videos stream so slowly that the video stutters when watching it. The same video streams just fine when streaming from a NAS device connected to the same switch.

I'll have a go at ftp'ng into the XBox and seeing how quickly it takes to transfer files from the mac via FTP

You need to know if it's the wireless connection or something else going wrong and the only way you'll know that is by wiring up the machines to see if that improves thing, PITA as it is.
