iPhoto book printing... in Australia

Hi All,
I am LOVING iPhoto - and all of iLife - it is constantly reaffirming my belief that the Mac platform is the best in the world - not that I needed more proof.

One thing... I know that MacTalk has had previous threads about iPhoto printing in Australia, but they all seemed to be centered around calendars... but I want a book printed - just the standard picture one.

It is for my mum's wedding photos...I want it to be nicely done...its going to be around 46-50 pages... how much would this be? I know I could just send any old printer a pdf.. but I want them to be a mac friendly business - and to know about iPhoto, and how I will be wanting the book formatted (like in iPhoto - with Front cover/insets and so on..)

Thanks,

-Stephen Rose

Digial Da Vinci had a plug in for the old version of iPhoto - I think at the moment you have to send them the PDF if you are using the new version.

I found this on the Apple Support discussion site. None of the iPhoto books done in Australia come even close to the ones in the USA. But possibly this is a way to get them. My brother is in the photographic field & I have mentioned this to him but he is a windowz user so he don't understand.

I called Apple in Australia about this.

If you can set up a mail forwarding address in the US you should be able to get the books sent there and then bounced along to Australia. Added cost and inconvenient - very much like using a PC.

I checked some other options listed here. the Digital Da Vinci and Momento (support for iPhoto?) are by far the best quality but the price hurts… you pay at least $30 extra for a dust cover option. It works out cheaper to go the US printing mail forwarding route. Especially if you plan on getting a few items.

Check USAbox.com or Access USA. They both have different plans for their service. I have not attempted this yet but I thnk I will give it a go.

It sure would be way better if Apple made this service available in Australia.

Apparently www.snapfish.com.au prints books and calendars and other misc things in Australia for resonable prices and postage(on par with Apples iphoto books) not sure of the quality. I have been investigating this option myself...I am thinking of ordering a soft cover book for 19.95 just to see what its like

They're not perfect, but they do the trick, and they deliver to australia:

iPhoto friendly. I have bought one book through them. The printing is good, the cut of the cover could be better but overall pretty good.

My wife prefers the Kodak books however (which you can do but you have to do it online) because they come with leather-bound covers.

I work at a commercial digital print company in brisbane, we've recently purchased a new HP Indigo 5500 (top line commercial digital printing press, 7 colour, 1200dpi) and soon to launch a retail photobook entity... unfortunately the current version of the software is windows only but we can cater for iPhoto books if you export them out as a pdf... if you're interested PM me.
