I don't know what the fuss is - I like the new look, nice and clean.

Why don't you keep it for a while - give it a chance to grow on you?

Otherwise you'll be just like the Windows XP users that turned off the new UI and made it look like Windows 2000, just because that's what they were used to.

As an example of similar (couldn't find the exact same images) on my system:





I agree the checkers background isn't as easy to read as others (but better than your example), but come on - that's a shocking background to read ANY text on, not just the menubar.

They are prerelease iirc. Having said that, yours aren't too readable either.
