Spaces on F8?!

Weirdly Spaces is set to F8.

But on the new Keyboards F8 is marked as Play/Pause.

Why would Apple do this I wonder? Why not make it F6 or something?

I'm a stickler for consistency and order - I've probably got mild Autism

Drive's me nuts. I've put Spaces on F6 for now.

Which is no good on the Macbook keyboard which is Num-Lock...

I chucked mine up on F19 as I have the new KB, not all apps recognise the F16-19 anyway, so figured I should use them.

I set mine to F5 but I think I'm going to change it to F19 now

you do know that, on the new keyboard the Fn key toggles between F-Key mode and the new key assignments such as sound, brightness, pause/play?

If you use the new assignments by default then Fn-F8 is going to get you plain old F8.

If you have told sys preferences to use the F-keys normally then Fn-F8 will get you play/pause. And so on.

Slightly off-topic but how do I get F7 on my MBP's keyboard to activate Exposé's "All Windows". I tried setting it as the key in System Preferences -> Mouse and Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts, but only makes Fn-F7 work for it. It won't accept Fn-F7 as a valid key either

This makes no sense to me as F7 doesn't control any hardware thing, as Fn-F7 or just on its own. And F11 and F12 work fine whilst all the other things control volume and brightness (screen/keyboard).

Gawd Blimey Guvnor! I've only just noticed the fn key!

I'd been looking for one in the same place as on my MacBook. But it's over on the home-pad section thingy.

Still - doing fn-F8 is a bit of a contortion for my fingers.

I might stick it all the way over on F19

I've made it the middle mouse button (using SteerMouse) but also, press the Expose keys while you're in spaces for some amusement.

Mine's set to F5, I wanted it on the Expose button on the new keyboards (F3, I just use the mouse of expose) but no matter what I set Expose or Spaces to F3 Always uses Expose.

Try Fn-F3, see if it's been relegated to that?
