Is there some place that you activate the Quicklook icon to go in the top of your finder windows? It's not there on mine and I don't know how to put it there.

Right-click on the toolbar customize and drag it up.

Can anyone tell me - can you install Leopard from an external USB2 DVD drive? The superdrive in my Macbook pro doesn't work.

Hmm, it probably has to be a firewire drive unless you're capable of booting up from USB now?

But I can't see why you can't, shame I can't test that out for you, since I don't have a Macbook Pro, but I do have a ext DVD+R drive.

I'm still in the process of installing my apps and tinkering with settings but so far everything is working fine for me (only installed last night)

except that things aren't as smooth as tiger - expose has been very jerky at times, not a biggie especially since its still early days

I do miss the desktop disappearing into the distance effect from the old front row tho

Leopard, my first impressions

Still new to mac, but just installed leopard tonight on a new iMac.

1. Took over an hour to install, would work to start with, kept insisting I didn't have the correct copy of 10.4 installed, eventually decided to install.

2. Can't see any blinding improvements with mail, addressed and ical, I'll stick to Entourage.
3. Coverflow in Documents is really nice.
4. not fussed about stacks.
5. Better get used to the beach ball spinning, seems slow in some tasks.
6. iPhoto keeps locking up, it was always a bit 'iffy', but seems worse now.

I won't be in a hurry to install leopard to my macbook, we'll see.

I've never used the Dashboard as much as I have since I've got the web-widgets. They are great!

Question for MacBook users:
Have you noticed that in Leopard, your fans will turn on more regularly? Especially when running full screen videos?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but my MacBook fans will constantly spin more often... than in Tiger.

Edit
That might have something to do with powering two screens (internal and 24" external).

Photo Booth-didn't try it (wouldn't work with a Philips TouCam XS webcam).

yeah I think leopard is far more memory and processor hungry than tiger definitely worth putting in as much ram as possible. But as the os gets refined this may change, heres hoping.

I am surprised with how well Leopard runs on my PowerBook. I thought it would be a dog, but it's completely usable.

Now that I've sold my iMac I'll have to wait for new MacBook Pro's before I can experience it as it was intended I'm sure.

Re: 'locate'--I too was surprised when I saw 'Executing updatedb as root' when I ran updatedb after updating to 10.5. However, I did a bit of testing (described here: http://apple.newbox.org/article.php?story=root_locate ) and found that this behavior has been around for quite a while. 10.3, while not giving that message, gives the same results: that is to say, you can use 'locate' and it will find files in other users' directories. This is very odd--I could have sworn I used locate in the past without seeing other users' files in the results, and I just always thought OS X silently used 'slocate' just like most Linux distros.
