Took the plunge and tried an upgrade install on my Mac Pro (installing Final Cut Studio is pretty painful as it is, let alone when you're as time-poor as I am!) and I can confirm no issues so far with Final Cut Studio. The last time I did an upgrade, Final Cut when totally screwy, refused to open, all sorts of crazy issues, ended up doing a full erase and install. Bugger it, I'll check 'em all, see how they're doing...

Yep, DVD Studio Pro is fine, takes a while to load up since it seems to be rebuilding its directory of assets. Soundtrack is fine. Motion also seems fine, no problems. This is all really good news for me!

My finder froze after I plugged in my USB drive. Relaunched and has been fine ever since.

i just ordered a new 24incher imac 2.4ghz with leopard yesterday and am a busy final cut user myself so this is indeed good news. But I think leopard was taken into consideration when the fcp2 studio was been written, so all is good. good to know it wont have any problems once installed.

How long do people keep the "Previous System" folder?

Noticed it's 16GB ish...

should I keep it for a few days or a few reboots?
(It is from my Archive and Install)

Hi all, I've got a 4 year old G4 1Ghz iBook with 1GB of Ram and was wondering anyone with a similar system has taken the plunge and upgraded.......if yes, is the system coping alright with it, eg has it slowed the response time?

I had no problems with the install. It took about 1 and a quarter hours. Then did the software update, and was lad to see the Aperture update there.

Looks sweet so far!

BTW using MBP rev 1

Hi All,

Just to let you know how my leopard install went. I just used the upgrade option - took the easy road. Backed up of course......

Anyway, install took about 1 hr on my 24" iMac (older white one) and completed without incident. So far, all looks ok, though I do have a couple of minor niggles.

1/ .mac backup program failed with "unable to eject archive file - in use" message. I notice there was a software update to that this morning which fixed it.
2/ One old PPC program I have displays its fonts as black blocks - so I cant read it. Ok this doesn't bother me directly as my wife uses it to count her calories - but indirectly it does as I am under extreme domestic pressure to fix it !! The program is called CalorieKing.
3/ The first run of the Time Machine Backup stalled - I had to blow away the backupdb file on the ext disk and restart - but I excluded the system library and system applications for the second run - and it completed ok overnight. So Time Machine is ok now.

So there you have it - just gonna have a poke around over the next few days and find out all the subtle (and not so subtle) changes that have occurred.

Cheers !

P.S - Just playing around with Time Machine.... all I can say is WOW ! This is the most impressive part 10.5 - just blows me away - doing some test restores of emails, files - fantastic............ works amazingly well. (I shouldn't sound so suprised!)

G'day

Don't have the new big cat yet... but am just watching the demo movie on apple.com...

The guy says that when you plug an ext drive in, it will ask if you want to use it for Time Machine...

Is that EVERY time you connect an ext drive??? Just 1st time for and drive?

Also... the iMac he's using - on the desktop - no HDD icon...

cheers

Okay, I'm a little baffled....

In Tiger, you couldn't drag files onto a blank CD or DVD to burn them, because it would just create aliases to the files rather than copy them onto the disc. So you had to copy the files using Command C, then paste them onto the disc.

But in Leopard, even doing that way still only creates aliases to the files! How do I actually copy them onto the disc?

g.

[edit: just sorted it out - looks like even though they're aliases when you drag them over, they are actual files when you burn]

Good: Spaces. Absolutely love it.
Bad: Migration assistant. WTF did it migrate if I have to manually dig around for .plist files and move shit across for Mail, NNW, iTunes, Safari, Transmission, my documents folder, etc etc etc?

I can't migration assistant to work either. The disk won't mount on to my imac. I'm trying to restore from by backups instead. It's painfully slow. At this rate I should have my computer back to normal by xmas.

So...... Does that mean that the aliases will actually turn into files on older OSes too? I've always assumed I had to hold down Option when dragging to a disc to get it to burn the actual file and not just aliases...
