you have missed the most obvious option, a simple update.
what i did was clean up system, backup to my external hard drive, boot up off the tiger disK and reformat, repair permissions & disk, restore system from HD.
will then do a simple update and CS3 should be fine, not so sure about FCE, rumours that it just wont run under leopard full stop.

I have pre-ordered but won't install till I know there is an update out there for Leopard that allows the CS3 suite to the installed trouble free..
Perhaps it will only be a few days, I can't see it being too difficult if the main problem is just getting it to work when Safari 3 is installed...
Fingers crossed.

if you installed CS3 before safari 3 you would have had no problems
its installing it once safari 3 is installed (and leopard cant be downgraded to v2)

I really hate to hear stories where people don't visit forums like this, and don't know about these incompatibilities and go ahead and upgrade and then bitch later. I feel it hurts Apple when they can't get their act together.
But then you will always have these people, they are the same ones that buy the latest software only to check later that their G3 running 10.2 won't cut it!!! (And they bitch as well.)

I hope you don't me adding a 'dumb' question to this thread...
I'm considering a 'clean-install' for Leopard and have a PS question:
I had Photoshop CS2, then bought the CS3 upgrade, so... that means I have to re-install CS2, activate, then install the CS3 upgrade and activate again, right? ... I can't just install the CS3 'upgrade' without having CS2 components already on my system?

Yes you can just install the CS3 'upgrade' without having the CS2 components already on your system. You only need the serial number of the software package you are upgrading from to successfully install CS3 Upgrade/Upsell (and even that isn't completely necessary.)
Due to the possible incompatibilities between Leopard and CS3 installer, it may be best that you clean install Tiger, install CS3 then upgrade to Leopard.

Yech! There goes my week-end!
I did a clean install last time with Tiger, sooo, maybe I'll just wait for Adobe to release an update (falls about laughing at the thought of Adobe acting swiftly), or wait and read about people's upgrading experiences and advice before I take the plunge.
(Still bear the scars of my iLife 08 'early adopter' woes!)

Have a Leopard and CS3 install party ;p Cake, coffee and cat petting a plenty!
If you start the install on Friday evening, you should have things done by mid-day Saturday.
