Buying a Mac on October 26th

My plan is to get an iMac on the 26th the day that Leopard comes out. However, will the Mac I get from a reseller have Leopard pre-installed by then, or would I have to wait a bit longer? If so what's my best option? Buy now install Leopard later, or wait a bit (which I have the time to do).

If it ships from Apple, yes.

Otherwise, expect a week to two to three week lead time.

if, the imac has been sitting on the resellers shelf for a week, then it will have tiger. It would hard to say when all resellers will have hardware with 10.5 on

just pay the 12 bucks and get the disc shipped to ay

stefanlod: Phase is right, if you buy a new machine from a reseller on the 26th, the Mac will not have OSX on the machine. The reseller won't give you a retail box of 10.5, either. What you will get is either a slim envelope dropped into the box by the reseller containing a 10.5 upgrader DVD (assuming Apple have them ready as well) or a voucher to get a free 10.5 upgrader disc direct from Apple.

NB: if the past releases of OSX have been anything to go by, this updater disc will be just that -- an updater only; you won't be able to use it to install 10.5 directly from it, only upgrade an existing install of 10.4

Wait and get Leopard pre-installed unless you want Tiger as well...

Otherwise you'll have to rebuild your Mac!

They didn't have upgrade discs last time from memory. I believe it will be strictly by redemption.

As for waiting, why bother? You only have to pay a shipping fee of approximately $13 and you will have Leopard. There are no guarantees that Leopard will come preinstalled for weeks or even months afterwards.
