Safari Version 3.0.3 and PDF files

Hi,

Having installedl Safari 3.03, I now seem unable to open pdf files directly in Preview, this wouldn't normally be a problem because I could Right-Click / Ctrl-Click and ask for it to open in Preview after it had opened in Safari.

However, from a particular website my Right Click/Ctrl-Click functionality seems to have been disabled, and I cannot Save/Save-As either or print to pdf from safari.

Any suggestions as to how I can d/l directly without opening in preview, appreciated!

Cheers.

Only read this if you are REALLY bored:
(P.S. With a bit of URL manipulation I can eventually get it to open in Safari in a way in which I can see the Ctrl-Click menu and get it to open in Preview - however when I do this the file appears to be protected and will allow me to print but not save - I presume because I have by-passed a terms and conditions verification screen? Hmm, maybe not - I'm not sure that makes sense! )

Nice suggestion, but the download button (I presume it's javascript) that I have to click doesn't give me that usual option.

Thanks Disko.

I you would prefer PDFs to always open in Preview (as I do), run the following in the Terminal and restart Safari afterwards.

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES

Try going to Print -> PDF -> Save as PDF... that way you'll get an almost carbon copy, but with any protection removed.

edit: I was faced with a related issue recently, whereby some assmonkey had made it so that to view a particular collection of PDFs, you had to click on a javascript link, which then opened a dynamically generated piece of HTML which had a frame of the PDF, but which blocked all right click activity. What an asshole. It doesn't stop anyone with any real web skills from saving the PDF, but it does prevent legitimate users like me from right clicking to change between 1 and 2 page view modes in Safari. All I had to do was go to the Activity Monitor window, find the PDF within the HTML, then double click it.

You can then save the PDF, or, if it's protected somehow, do a Print as PDF...

eni,

Excellent.

I had done something like this before prior to Safari 3 beta, but had forgotten what it was.

Cheers!

Thanks forgie,

Yes, great idea (well, I have to say that because I'd already tried it but didn't want to make the long boring bit even longer and boringer) - had the same problem with the only menu options enabled being:

Save PDF as Postscript
Print to Fax
and Edit Menu

Anyway, should be sorted now.

Cheers all.

Edit:

Yep, that appears to be what's going on here forgie, I mirror your frustration!
