I am using iMovie to import analogue video through ADVC 55. Some of this is VHS, Hi8 and increasingly television. Is their a better application to record the television ready to burn to DVD? My understanding is that the ADVC is converting to Mpeg 1. Therefore I need to record that data and thenj convert to mpeg2.
Any help is appreciated

Just spoke to Canopus. ADVC converts to DV. From their I am on my own. So, I have television from the VCR coming through the ADVC and into the G5 1.8 through firewire. Now, I simply want to record the data and burn to DVD. Im after the quickest most painless method.
Thanks

I don't really know, but just wondering in iDVD5 and iMovie5 there is the DV to video function. I wonder if this will suite your needs.

No, I don't think it will. This feature relies on a digital video camera that the computer controls using the firewire connection.

To be honest, I don't think there is an easier way. Recording analogue is a problem is this regard because while you can bulk record a whole lot of stuff, it won't split the DV footage.

Hope this makes sense and I am very possibly wrong, but from what I've learned over the years and what experience I've had with doing this sort of thing, I think you are currently doing it in the most efficient method.

I use iMovie to record through an ADVC-100. You just click "import" from the moment you wish to start importing the movie, regardless of the analogue source. iMovie doesn't have to be able to control a camera (it can't control a Canopus box) to be able to import.

I use a program called Vidi. Give it a go.

Either way, I just capture it as DV, use quicktime pro to cut out the bits that I don't want (Takes less then a second on QTPro to save), change the settings so that the quality is high and interlace is off, and I just use Toast to burn onto DVD. Very simple and easy
