is there a keyboard shortcut...
that will re-open a file or application I've just closed by accident - like tab restore on firefox?

Apple Menu>Recent Applications>first item on the menu.

Not a shortcut, but still pretty quick. If no applications are showing, then edit System Preferences/Appearance.

All my recent applications are sorted alphabetically (I have mine showing the last 20). Is there some preference that changes the way they are viewed from alphabetically to actually showing them in the order they were last launched? TIA.
