Only one thing I can say...

Goodbye Bits On Wheels. It's been fun.

Ok, I don't like Transmission any more. With other torrent managers (such as Bits on Wheels) I could start downloading a torrent that I had been downloading on another computer... with Transmission I don't believe I can. Am I wrong?

Edit: Ok, I was wrong. Never mind.

Second Edit: whoa this is much better

Go to portforward.com . There are instructions for a whole range of routers.

Is it your router / port forwarding
or Mac OS X?

I am starting to investigate the extra settings I used to allow in
System Prefs / Sharing.

I had a few extra ones from memory in Tiger... but Leopard killed them all - and it doesn't appear I can easily add options there either?
I for one was very happy with Transmission... got good seeds / speeds under TIger so not sure what has broken under Leopard...

suspect it is in the Sharing aspect of Mac OS X.

Since I installed Leopard I found that Azureus was really slowing down the machine so I put Transmission v0.9 on. It looks to have everything I need (encrypted connections, ability to selectively download files inside a torrent and a simple way to set and override bandwidth schedules) so I'm becoming a convert.

Don't worry about specific Transmission settings. Just configure your ports for a generic Bittorrent setting, and apply the port number in Transmission.

Buggered if I can get anything happening with regards to transmission now that I have upgraded to Leopard.
Like you, I had great speeds etc under Tiger, but now I am flat out connecting to anyone even though apparently the port I am using is open according to Transmission…

This is all I can seem to get now

As in the following help guide from transmission:

Open Transmission, go to Preferences >> Network and enter a number for the port. It is recommended you pick a random number between 49152 and 65535. Let's use 50001 for now. Then quit Transmission.
Open System Prefs >> Sharing >> Firewall. Click "New." In the "Port Name" pop-up menu, select Other, and fill in the settings as follows:
TCP Port Number(s): the port you chose in step 1 - eg 50001.
UDP Port Number(s): the port you chose in step 1 - eg 50001.
Description: Transmission
Click OK.
NB: To disable the firewall, click Stop
.

Ok the port is now open and showing green dot in transmission but I still have a red dot on ( automatically map port.
I also haven't disabled my firewall.
Is this correct????

This is only in Tiger.
Leopard has changed where and how it looks after Firewall it seems.
Firewall is under Security - but I couldn't easily see how to add ports.

You can still see the list of services / ports under the "Sharing" aspect of Preferences...
but I couldn't see how to add a new one.

The Leopard firewall appears to open ports as required by the app. If you change ports within transmission then that port will open (and presumably the other closes).

I just tired a heap of numbers in this range and they were all stealth?!?!
My Transmission had 9090 in there (which was Open).

My Transmission still doesn't connect to peers or download.
