I haven't had a problem with Limewire and spyware since I've had it. And that's nearly a year and half...

Just don't download stupid things

I am a long-term user of LimeWire on the Mac and have never had any security issues with it.

Recently i have stopped using the official LimeWire client and started using CrossWire - it's much less taxing on system resources, and works just as well! Check it out:

Thanks Tom, I heard about CrossWire the other day, but I couldn't be bothered to try it. Now that I've heard a good review I shall go and get it and post my findings, too

Mitch

No worries

I found it took me a few uses to get used to it, but soon decided that i much preferred it over the official client. Sure, it doesn't have all the features, but it also doesn't take up half my system resources!

Let us know how you go.

I was going to suggest frostwire as well. It is the same interface and seems to have been written by a few disgruntled ex Limewire employees.

If you don't mind using another network you could also try aMule.
