I am using a dual screen setup (MBP + Secondary LCD). When the LCD is off, I keep my dock on the left hand side of my MPB screen (which is how I like it), however when I turn the LCD on, my dock jumps to the left of that screen (as the LCD is setup to the left of my MBP).

Is there any way to force the dock to remain on the left of the MBP screen even when the secondary LCD is turned on? Normally I throw Parallels, iTunes, instant messaging, or email to the secondary screen, then do my main work on the MBP screen. It is a real annoyance to have to cross screens constantly to access the dock.

Any suggestions?

It does that becasue it makes no sense (and breaks some design rules) to have the dock essentially floating in mid air. When you lay out the screens the top left of the second monitor becomes position 0,0 and the dock always wants to be at the extreem edge of your desktop (which now spans two monitors).

The only way around it is to place your second monitor logically on the right of your laptop display although that would make it odd as you would move your cursor off the right of the display to reach the monitor physically on the left....unless you physically move your secondary monitor to the right as well.

all you need to do is set the mbp as the main display in sys prefs - displays- arrangement and drag the monitors into the correct physical arrangement and then drag the menu bar to the macbook pros screen

Yeah, I understand that in concept it doesn't make sense to have the dock floating between the screens, but this is really what I want to do

Interestingly enough, if you position the secondary LCD to be above the MBP, then you can opt to have the the menubar floating at the top of the MBP, or at the top of the LCD (like The Architect.mac described). Just you can't do this left to right with the dock!

yeh can't move through the dock to another screen, move the dock to the bottom and it will go to the mainscreen...

Yeah, I have a similar problem - the dock seems most practical on the left of the screen so the main screen has to be to the left of the secondary screen. But then again, I prefer my all windows and desktop hot corners on the right (right handed mouse just don't 'swish' to the left so easy) so my secondary display has to be smaller than my primary.
Using a 22" and a 15" at the moment, but I foresee a 23" and a 22" set-up in my future. *dreams*
