Photoshop - resize image - preserve text

I just created a simple image to use as an avatar but when re-sizing it for the forum the text ends up impossible to read. Are there any ways to avoid this or is it an inevitable result of squeezing the image down to 80x80 pixels?

cheers.

With Photoshop, or any bitmap application, you won't be able to keep "clean" text.

Your image is composed of a certain amount of pixels, and when you reduce its size, your application just "throws away" extra pixels.

To get the best result possible would be to compose your image at its final size (80x80, in your case) and check with the image at 100% if you text stay readable...

you could use a squarer font for the text, but that's really about it i'd say..

You could spit the text between the top and the bottom.
If I read correctly (by squinting) it would read "2007" at the top and "an iPhone Odyssey" along the bottom, then re-size the text to fit the 80x80 box (ctrl+t to transform the layer).
