Same problem here! 'Lifetime' may mean - life of version 1.0.
I just don't use Acquisition anymore. The sources tended to be unreliable compared to BitTorrent and it had a bit of a history of causing my G5 to seize up at inopportune moments.
Transmission (a free app) is just so much better.

Watanabe is actually Canadian, but he spent a year living in Melbourne doing his Masters, during which he developed NewsFire.
My comment wasn't meant to imply that he's American, just that it seems to me that Americans launch class-action suits over much smaller issues than one as clear as this - where a 'lifetime licence' isn't.
EDIT 7th Dec 07: Still no reply from Watanabe, so none likely forthcoming. Something just occurred to me however. Doesn't the effectiveness of that kind of P2P software rely heavily on everyone having the latest version? Watanabe's own update messages suggest this. Isn't he then really shooting himself in the foot by not honouring his 'lifetime' licenses and thus leaving outdated versions all over the place? My old version of Acquisition works just fine and I'm going to keep on using it forever.

More shady crap - this time it's Inquisitor, which artificially inserts Amazon listings at the top of search queries which - surprise! - have Watanabe's affiliate code.
Fair enough, he's providing the software for free, but between a) artificial manipulation of Google results, b) failing to disclose that this occurs and c) his history of general dodginess, I think it's time to uninstall.

I don't think its fair at all even if he had of disclosed it. At minimum there should be a way to completely disable it.

at least if he had disclosed this then people could decide for themselves how they felt about the "fairness" of it all. as it is though, it's going to be uninstalled tonight, even though I always found it useful....
shame really!

Why go to the trouble of uninstalling when you can just not hit the amazon links? Especially if you find the app useful.
I use Inquisitor everyday because it's a quick, simple way of searching within Safari. I'm not going to sacrifice that because of some Amazon referral code! Seeing as he's providing it for free, it's probably the only sliver of money he makes out of the thing, anyway. It doesn't worry me in the slightest.
