I've defended David Watanabe in the past, including on the forums here, because:
a) I bought Acquisition when it was really cheap and until recently it never gave me any trouble and b) I once got a friendly personal email from him and he seemed like a nice guy.
I just noticed the other day though that my version of Acquisition was way out of date. So I downloaded the newest version (2) and went to plug in my registered email address, only to find that it didn't work. The app now requires an activation code emailed to the registered address. There's a facility on his webpage to get a new activation code mailed to you, which I tried, without luck.
So the 'lifetime licence' I paid for was invalidated as soon as the developer went to version 2 of the software. I see that he now charges US$24 for a 'Pro' licence with an optional extra $US10 charge for his new 'lifetime licence' and a promise that:

All major upgrades of Acquisition in the future (eg. 3.0, 4.0, etc...) are totally free with this option. You'll be set for life!

Will he arbitrarily cancel this new 'lifetime licence' again I wonder? What makes this committment any better than the last? If I were American I'm sure I could sue him for misleading and deceptive advertising.
As is his wont, Watanabe hasn't answered my emails querying the situation.
He is seriously a blot on the page of independent developers, and someone to be avoided at all cost.
