OS X dual boot... with OS X?
Is it possible to dual boot Mac OS X with a different version of Mac OS X?
I ask this as I want to install Leopard onto my new MacBook when I get it, but I will be using it as my main machine, and I do not want to be limited to using beta software for my day-to-day tasks.
I would like to show off some of Leopard's features to my friends (I am very pesky that they become switchers) but I am not sure if it is possible to dual boot OS X with another *legitimate* version of OS X (And I don't plan on installing OSx86 as a BIOS-using system).
Or should I just wait until October and get the real thing and move properly over to Leopard?

Will it work in the BootCamp style, or will I have to select startup disc in system prefs?

Wonderful. Thank you very much. Good to know also for when I update system as a whole... can keep more stable version instead of having a Mac go all PC on me.

But you can't create a partition unless the entire disk is erased right?

I take it you have not used Boot Camp then?

Backing up your data before repartitioning would always be highly recommended.

I'd say you could use the BootCamp partition resizing utility to create an XP partition, then use Disk Utility to reformat that partition to HFS+ (Mac OS Extended).

Is it possible to boot off an external drive?
I might be easier to go and pick up a small one, load Leopard on there, and retain your files on your internal HDD.

Yes, it is possible.
Some Macs can't boot of USB drives though. Use FW to be sure

Actually... I created a partition in Boot Camp and Disk Utility wouldn't let me do anything with it until after I had installed Windows. That was from using Boot Camp 1.2
Makes you wonder if you should install something like Puppy Linux or something and then boot back into OS X.

You've gotta use Disk Utility off an installation CD. Your existing OS X install wont touch it otherwise.
I did this to install the WWDC preview of Leopard. Made a Bot Camp partition, booted the Leopard DVD, used Disk Utility to format the Boot Camp partition, installed as normal.
Too easy
