Question Can't see another Mac on network, but can connect to the net

Hi folks,

Having a huge mental blank here, sorry.

I'm at at a friend's place and he has Mac and windoze computers.

I can connect to his internet - no trouble.

I can 'see' his windoze computers, but I can't see the G4 that is also on his network. The G4 won't connect to the net, but I have an ethernet cable going from my iBook to the G4.

What have I done wrong? What do I need to do to get some files off his G4?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers,
Andrew

Having you got "Personal File Sharing" and "Windows Sharing" turned on in System Prefs?

Make sure that Network settings are correct. If in doubt, select DHCP.
Cheers

No, when you go the

Go menu>connect to server
Box appears.

type in the server address of the G4

should be in the preferences somewhere.

my ibook server address is..

afp://Graham-colemans-computer.local/

look under Sharing in the systems preferences on the G4

should be a box called rendezvous Name:
