This one!!



I get it ALL the %*&#ing time!!

Usually when I'm trying to send an (important) email, or copying some (..important) files onto my ibook ready to run out the door and go to uni. When it appears, it usually pops up every few minutes in clusters, until I restart or stop doing whatever I was trying to do and let the ibook sleep on it.

Most often I get it when connecting to SMB/CIFS shares from my PC on my ibook. My wireless network uses two 802.11b/g ultraWAP APs; one in AP mode, and one in Universal Repeater mode (other end of the house), with an emac connected to it's ethernet port. I use WPA-PSK (TKIP) encryption, with a fairly secure password, so I'm sure nobody is haxxing me. Besides, it almost always occurs when I'm doing something funky with the network.

So, SO annyoying. A mysterious box that tells you basically nothing, and gives you no options? How very un-apple.

lol nah to me it sounds like it has detected that someone has hacked into your wireless so the system or whatever network software disables it to discourage the wireless internet thief/thieves? That's just a guess though :P

At the bottom of that thread is my "trusty tip" for OSX wireless poblems - remove the network from your preferred networks, remove all references to it in your Keychain Utility, then re-add it. OSX has issues sometimes when you change the security type (WEP/WPA/WPA2) but leave the network name (SSID) the same. Try it and let us know how it goes.

Hawker, I did google this problem a few weeks ago. That thread seems to say nothing conclusive other than 'change the airport options from preferred networks to automatic', which mine was already on. It only suggests there is a WPA2 implementation problem in OS X, which doesn't much help.

Well it sounds like somewhere, OSX has a corrupted bunch of settings or details for that network. Somewhere there'll be a plist or something that you can manually remove it... but if it's in the keychain things may not be that simple due to encryption and what not.

Just for the record, have you changed network settings AFTER you set it up on your mac? I have seen this cause some "weird" behaviour in the past - like if you connect to an open network, then change the network to have encryption, OSX sometimes has a bit of an issue in connecting properly unless you remove it via Keychain.
