There has been many new features added in Safari 3, but what have you missed? A feature run down.

Note: This list contains somethings that I have never noticed before, but may have been in previous version of Safari.

Don't lose that!

How many times have you ever accidently quit Safari, and loss a heap of tabs/windows that you didn't have to? Too many. You no longer have to worry about that with the help of two of the new features in Safari 3.

If you have typed anything into a form, a black dot will show in the window close button (like in other applications when you haven't saved).

And when you try and close the window, a new alert appears.

WebClip Surprise:

WebClip.pdf and WebClipBannerBackground.png can be found in Safari's resources. WebClip.pdf is obviously the icon or button for WebClip when it is integrated in the future, and WebClipBackgroundBanner.png is probably what will surround your selection in Safari, before transferring it to WebClip on the Dashboard.

Search Easy:

There are three new search functions. Each can be activated by pressing - F. The first one can be found in any View Source window. Type in any word and the source will be searched immediately.

The second one is in View All Bookmarks, and lets you search all or some of your bookmark collection.

The third one is on any web page.

Tabs:

It is now possible to save bookmark sets.

Also, you can merge all windows into a single window of with tabs.

You can now have the tab bar showing all the time (even if you only have one tab), and close it when you want.

Another new feature with tabs is being able to drag and drop the individual tabs between windows, or out of the tab bar completely to make a new window. You can also re-arrange the tabs without taking them out of the tab bar. To move the tabs out of the tab bar easily click and hold on the tab and press , then drag to wherever you want and release.

Did I spell that right?

There's no more excuses for stupid typos with spell checking as you type. You can right click the word and choose the correct spelling too. Mistakes are noticibly underlined in red, just the same as many other applications.

It's not in the history, you can't prove I did it.

There is now a new option in preferences to clear history automatically, allowing you to choose how often, or not, it is cleared.

Domain:

Your heading towards a website that your friend just told you, and you realise that it does not even exist. Verify that with an easy google search.

Forms:

Safari 3 supports custom form buttons, text boxes, menus, etc. Suddenly you favourite website may look a bit different.

Don't like the size of that text box? Well, you don't have to! You can now resize most text boxes to something that fits you.

Reset Safari? Won't that lose all my cookies, cache, passwords, etc? Not any more.

No longer do you lose all your valuable passwords and cookie files when you reset Safari, which now gives you the option of keeping somethings, and clearing out others.

Great stuff Blair.
As stated in the other thread, you can rearrange (drag) tab order, and you can drag tab to desktop to create a new Safari window, and you can drag tabs into another existing Safari window.

Does anyone actually use Safari? It may have some wise bang interface but I use a browser to render web pages and Safari is not to good at it.

Safari is right at the top of the list when it comes to rendering. Its bad website developers that cause the problems

v3 is much better.
And faster if one does a full reset first.
Yeah, you lose cookies, but that may be a good thing. (Except for the MacTalk one.)

as browsers go, it's arguably the closest to the W3C specs and as someone who's at the coalface, the most reliable ...

although, i've yet to see any real difference in the rendering engine between 2x and 3x ...

I do believe you can do that already in Safari 2.
