I need apiece of software that will take a series of snapshots from a video source, such as an isight, a bit like stop motion, but then merge all the shots into one so the motion of the object is tracked in the one shot.

Any suggestions.

After Effects would do it.

So you plan to create a video clip from a series of stills then motion track an object in that clip?
Is that right?

If so, after Effects is what your after.

When you create the still series make sure they are numbered sequentially. you can then import them into After Effects as a one clip. From there, you motion track your point and do what you like with it.



EDIT: ok re-read your post. You need to grab stills from a video first. Well again after effects could do that, but it would be a bit of a pain.
You could just screen capture your frames right off the clip? Not sure how many frames per second you want to grab though.

EDIT2: What am I thinking! Put it into final cut. Apply the strobe filter select how long you want the freeze for. You've got your stop motion look alike. Back into AE for motion control.
