What's New for VMware Fusion Beta 4
Based on feedback from users like you, we've made scores of improvements that make VMware Fusion faster, more reliable and even easier to use. VMware Fusion Beta 4 includes:

New "Unity" feature: Say goodbye to the Windows desktop - VMware Fusion now lets you run Windows XP applications directly on your Mac desktop, providing full integration with Mac keyboard shortcuts and the Exposé feature in Mac OS X. Use the VMware Fusion Launch Palette to easily access all your Windows applications, and save your favorite Windows applications to the Mac OS X Dock.

Improved Boot Camp integration: Already using Apple Boot Camp? VMware Fusion lets you access your existing Boot Camp partition, giving you the flexibility of running Windows natively or as a virtual machine. Beta 4 adds experimental support for Microsoft Vista and offers improved detection of Boot Camp partitions. In addition, VMware Fusion now automatically updates Windows to use optimized drivers when run as a virtual machine.

Improved performance: Virtual machines now boot faster, and applications now launch more quickly from virtual disks. Interactive performance has also been improved.

Improved User Experience: The toolbar is now completely customizable to meet your needs, virtual hardware has been moved to the status bar and the virtual machine hardware editor is now a sheet attached to the virtual machine.

This is quite interesting actually. VMWare and Parallels are spending quite a bit of effort for what is essentially a niche market. If they wanted to VMWare could have not bothered about a Mac version and I doubt it would have even dented their bottom line.

Competition is a wonderful thing though isn't it.....

Okay, I'm giddy with excitement now!

This is more than one virtualisation enthusiast can bear.

This is getting crazy.

I heard a rumour of a bootcamp update today too. Any news?

Has anyone used this left, I watched a video of the 'Unity' feature and wanted to know in real usage how it stacks up versus the Parallels equivalent?

Too many choices! :P

It works fine for me, although I can not compare it to the Parallels Coherence mode or whatever it is called since I have never run Parallels.
