Classic Black and White Mac Games
Hi all,
Doesnt anyone know where i can buy old mac games?
The games i'm after are games like:
Dark Castle
Beyond Dark Casle
Shuffle Puck Cafe
And other games of the same era!
I'm also trying to find out the name of a game i used to love playing...
Everything was command based IIRC, the first thing you did in the game was fight a knight, and if you beat him you got his armour. Later on in the game, you go up a tower and there is a Mac in the top room!
I know its not a very good description of the game, but it's all i can remember!
Thanks for any help!
Michael

There are a few of those here, Shufflepuck Cafe at least:
http://mac.the-underdogs.info/
Regardless of their age, Dark Castle/Beyond Dark Castle are not easily obtained, because the game is still being developed (by other people, mind you!).
More stuff here:

I've got a fully boxed copy of the original Dark Castle from Silicon Beach Software, but unfortunately, I'm not prepared to sell it.
Unless perhaps you can fill the gaps in boxed software of my Apple IIGS collection! :-)
Airball, Cavern Cobra, Manhunter San Francisco, Mixed Up Mother Goose, Strip Poker 2, Gnarly Golf, Street Sports Soccer, Mighty Marvel, Star Saga 1 & 2, Hostage, Vegas Craps, Beagle Draw, Designer Prints, Designer Puzzles, Graphics Supermarket, Mercury and a whole lot of educational software.

I think you'll be very hard pressed to find an original copy of DC/BCD, they're collectors items these days
The game you used to play - wasn't Radical Castle?

Cool - there is a similar game (based on the same game engine, World Builder) "Scepters" which was even better.
Both were bloody good games though, enjoyable to the end, and I did finish Scepters much to my delight (all four staffs saved!).
So get out there and kill some Vorpal Bunnies!

Are you after the games in order to play them, or in order to own original copies, or both? Do you want to run them on OSX?
I got DC/BDC running on OSX a few weeks back....

I got them running using "Mini vMac" - a classic mac emulator. To get things running, you need to get a system disk image (Apple have these available for free), a mac ROM (these are in a grey zone legally) and images of the game disks. I managed to locate and obtain all of these things on the net.... if you google it, there a few websites that have a rough "how-to" guide.

I wrote a game that is on the Macintosh Garden although I bet no one has heard of it
I wrote a game called Minitorian back in 1987 and published it with Educorp as shareware although I bet not many people have heard of it. It is on the Macintosh Garden the Macintosh Underdogs. http://mac.the-underdogs.info/index....w=game&id=1018. The guy who reviewed it called it better than Radical Castle and gave it four out of five stars. Minitorian was a real underdog because no one has heard about it and I almost forgot I wrote the thing but some how it shows up on Macintosh Garden lol. If anyone is interested I will email you a disk image which can be played with mini vmac. Email me at gregoryew@hotmail.com.

Thanks Gregory,
sounds like an interesting game of yesteryear, was this created under Game Builder too (I think that's what it was called)?

Yes Minitorian was built with World Builder as well. World Builder was created to build one of the world's first point and click adventure games called Enchanted Scepters and then World Builder was released a few years later so that people could develop their own adventure games. It was really easy to program using World Builder at least compared to building a game from scratch. You could even program it to understand full sentences if you really knew what you were doing. It supported digitized sound and graphics. I used one of the worlds first commerical sound digitizers and video digitizers (MacVision) for the game. At the end of the game my face appears if you get killed which I digitized with MacVision.
