what about sound editing software?
On PC i use Sony Sound Forge, i want something that will open .mp3, .wav, etc and you can cut, edit and save part of the file.

6 pages and no mention of one of the most innocuous but useful apps...come on down...
snapndrag
for taking screen shots. But wait I hear you say that mac has it's own grab utility. Use snapndrag and you will be converted. Plus you can put an όber handy icon in the menu bar, combine snapndrag with easycrop for a complete solution.

Helping a High School Maths teacher friend buying his first computer - iMac, of course! - tomorrow. He says that at school they use Equation Editor within Office for
writing equations in their Maths papers.
I know that Office:Mac comes with Equation Editor, but having played with Pages at the shop the other day, he seems keen not to get Office:Mac, rather to go with iWork.
So, anyone know of a free or cheap equation editor to use in OSX? I saw LaTeXiTbut it appears rather complicated. I also found Equation Service which also looks complicated.
I am trying to make this as simple as possible for my friend as he is not at all tech savvy! I was hoping for something where he didn't have to create PDFs and then import into Pages.
Cheers,
Andrew

iTunes doesn't use the latest LAME versions, and lacks support for V0, V1 or V2.

You can add a plug-in though that will add the functionality of latest LAME versions.

I would now also include VMware Fusion (if not already mentioned) to virtualization apps.
VMware Fusion 1.1
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
Edit
Whoops looks like Purana already mentioned it on Page 4. Sorry.

I've noticed that a few people have mentioned that their dvd backup / ripping has been taking a long time. I had that problem and came across a hint somewhere that mentioned Fairmount
It's easy to use - but an odd item to get. As you can see from the link you download it as part of a trail - though Fairmount is not trial software. You do need VLC to be installed to use it though. I've found it to be faster and less of a pain than MacTheRipper. Hope this helps some!

anyone know of an app that downloads and archives websites (not just individual web pages)?
I am interested in something that preserves internal links etc and can be used either for off-line browsing or to preserve data (don't you hate going to a site that holds obscure information only to find it has disappeared?)
