I find Miro a useful program for video organising, playing, etc. www.getmiro.com

disco (the app) is pretty (i'm sure matt is kinda pretty too) but its a fucking nightmare to work with (i'm sure matt is...)

Whats a good program to rip audio cd's to MP3 (192kps), and hopefully/preferably Get CD Data from the net.

Yup. iTunes is the one. Just adjust the importing preferences by selecting:

iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > MP3/192kbps

iTunes - have a look in the preferences (advanced - importing) from memory

Great info.

My question is, surely there is a free gui for compression/expansion? I would have thought $50 us was a bit pricey for a basic utility like that?

Yeah, Max is pretty good, it uses the LAME encoder, which audiophiles seem to recommend. Maybe things have changed since I last looked, but I thought the iTunes MP3 encoder wasn't highly rated. The iTunes AAC encoder gets better reviews, but not everyone wants to encode to AAC.

Max is one of those Mac Apps that doesn't have a high profile, but IMHO is definitely a 5 star app.
