Hi all,
Been thinking about getting this software package for a while.
Has anyone bought it and used it to work here locally?
As 90% of my DVD's are Region 4 and most if not all of my books are Aussie Versions is it worth the bother?
Then again is it really worth it just to catalogue Ralph, FHM and Playboy ;-)
But seriously anyone done a decent evaluation of it locally?

Ok so I found this thread through the search function!
It can be done , as I have now realised.
Im thinking about downloading this program once I get the iMac, and just wondering if anyone here has any experience with it picking up Region 4 dvd's. I have many from the United States, but still the majority are from Australia. Also is it user friendly?
http://www.delicious-monster.com is the address if you wanted to have a browse.
Thanks,
Adam.

I have almost 700 DVDs and I have found that Delicious is the best application for keeping track of my DVDs and Music CDs and My books...
great app
the developers are really responsive and actually answered my email in less than 24 hours.
Got a family pack, too - so it is on my wife's and my systems... she is loading all of her books on it and really loves it.
As has been mentioned - download the demo and try it...
I do know that there are plans to globalise the search capability...
In my case, I had search for about 10% of my entries - not too bad when you consider some of the alternatives.
good luck...

I guess you guys all have iSights then? Seems like you need it to use it efficiently.
The software appeals to me as well, but then I wonder what I'm actually cataloging all this stuff for anyway? I just go and look at my actual bookshelf
So those people who have it, what do you do then once you have it all listed on the computer?

I purchased Delicious Library about a week ago. So far I'm pretty happy with it.
I scanned in most items using my iSight camera, but it's also pretty fast to add things manually. You don't have to enter all the details, just a title or author's name and it will still search for item on Amazon and let you select the right one.
I found that barcode scanning didn't work for a small percentage of my books and DVDs (I'd guess 5-10%). Becuase I have a lot of Australian books I also found that about a third of the items I entered didn't have cover shots on Amazon. This resulted in me having to do some Google image searches for cover art, but at least you can add the cover image manually. I also used HMV's web site to get cover art for CDs that didn't come up automatically.
Now that everything is in there I'm not sure how much I will use the program. I am using it to track items I loan friends, and I'm sure it will be useful for that. I've also loaded the program on my laptop so when I visit people they can virtually browse through my collection. It would be nice if the guys at Delicious Monster could find a way to let you search the libraries of friends and family.
For anyone interested in this program I would suggest downloading it and trying it out. The unregistered version is fully functional, with the only limitation being your library can't hold more than 25 items.
One tip though: If you are using your iSight to scan bar codes make sure that the area is reasonably well lit. Dim lighting dramatically reduces the ability of the software to read barcodes using the iSight.

I don't know if there would be much use for the program once things are in there. But it's a damn neat way to keep track of all of these things for insurance purchases. Would suck if they stole your computer though. hehe. DVD backups might be useful.
I might have to grab a copy of this when I move out of home.

I have had it for some time now and am very happy with it. A hand scanner is much faster than iSight ( I have both) unless there is plenty of light , in which case there is not much difference. There is a new update in the last week of so which searches more sites than before.
As was earlier said you can type in the title and 99% of the time it will bring up a list which usually includes the right one.
Top program.

Delicious Monster's licensing policy:
Quote:
Q. What is your licensing policy? Can I install Delicious Library on more than one Mac?
A. Our official policy on licenses is that they're for single user-use. This means that you can install Delicious Library on all personal machines that you alone use. When licensing Delicious Library on another person's computer or a family computer used by multiple people, you should purchase additional licenses for those people. Our software does not scan the network or anything else that might alarm you, we simply rely on the honesty of our customers to use it fairly.

When I first switched to my PB I madly searched for a good DVD program.
On my old (never to be used again) Windows systems I used to use either
DVD Profiler or then the Aussie developed DVDCollector.
Both were great!
When I looked at this - it didn't have an R4 source.
Newer version seems to now natively import from Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom... and it still pulls its data from amazon.com?
Last time I tried it out - it didn't seem to have any of the dozen or so R4 titles. It had R1 or R2 versions - but not R4.
Anyone that has purchased this - able to clarify any improvements with the new version?
A good DVD program with a reliable R4 source is the only app I miss since I switched to my trusty beloved PB.
