AC3 + Quicktime = Crackle?

Fellas,

I'm having problems with some .avi files. They're DiVX video, AC3 Audio. I scoured the Net for something that will let them play, and found what I thought was the right codecs. They were even billed as 'For Intel Macs'.

Okay, so I have sound now, but it crackles at the worst times - when there's a lot of sound, during big battle scenes etc. - just exactly when you don't want it.

Anyone also experiencing this problem? What am I missing here?

Seems like keeping up with this stuff is a full time gig in itself!

Forgot to mention. I'm running a 2.16Ghz Core2 Duo iMac, 2Gb RAM, 10.4.9, Quicktime Player 7.1.5....err.....latest DivX and what I thought was the latest AC3 support from Nov of last year?

Tried VLC? It blows Quicktime out of the water when talking about codecs, and best of all, it's free!

That might be fine for playing the videos in my iMac, (Heck, Divx player will play them fine) but I can't burn them to DVD.

If you want to convert them to DVD give FFmpegX a look.

Actually this is really frustrating. I have n AC3 codec, and I can play the AVI's in everything, but as soon as I go to burn the movies to DVD, the audio crackles!

ARGH!
