When I bought my G5 the fans went at one speed - full bore.
The workaround for me was to disassemble the G5 and pull out the little watch battery inside for about 5 minutes or so.
It reset itself and has operated totally normally for the last 20months or so.

Um, reset the PMU.

Unplug from mains for about 5 mins.

Re-insert power.

Hey presto should reset the PMU. Don't remove the clock battery, this is easier.

I wished that had have worked for me Thorevenge but it was only the battery manoeuvre that did it! I tried with the main power supply a couple of times but eventually had to open it up.
