Possibility of multi-touch in OSX 10.5

Saw this article this morning about 10.5 have multi-touch ability. If true we could be in for some exciting times ahead.

it would be nice, and might strength the rumor of a mini mac with a touch screen, also makes sense with the new iPhone technology. be nice to have a mac POS with a touch screen.

The iPhone has Multi-Touch
The iPhone runs OS X
Therefore OS X has Multi-Touch

Whether it's 'included' is another thing. Might be like Frontrow when it was released...only available on machines that can use it. I can't imaging it being vary useful on a Mac Pro or iMac with no touch screen.

Given my experience with fingerprints and smudges and 101 other varieties of s**t on my existing screens - both CRT and LCD (ever had a bad cold and sneezed on an LCD screen? Not recommended) - the very last thing I'd want is a touch-screen Mac. Besides, my screen is ergonomically positioned, and therefore too far from my seated position to reach comfortably. But a large trackpad-type interface, which incorporates all of the touch-screen ideas without having to actually touch the screen ... now that's something I'd be interested in.

That is exactly how I envisage multi-touch being used with a desktop Mac. Replacing the mouse.

My money is on that when the iPhone is connected to your mac, you can use the phone as a multi touch device to control OS X :-) No need to re-invent the wheel......and gives consumers another reason to buy the iPhone.

You could do the opposite of this with a Newton, where the Mac keyboard could be used to type on the Newton (while connected to NCU etc).

(Is it just me, or is the iPhone name stupid compared to what this device does and what it could possibly do? Does it sell the device short?)
