I'd keep searching for the preferences file... trashing that should fix the issue.

Try looking in Library/Preferences/ in your home folder AND in the root of your hard drive. It also might be in Library/Application Support/.

The guy is using PGP to encrypt his email. Some of the experts on the board might be able to explain how to read it, as I have no idea. I think you need a key and a PGP decryption program.....

The sender signed his email using PGP. You can ignore the signature. There should have been other parts of the message, though, apart from the PGP signature. Look at the raw message source to see whether they're there. What mail client are you using?
