Just wondering which would be better for what I need for an anticipated purchase of a 17" 2.16gig MacBook Pro with 2gigs of ram and the 7200RPM drive, namely:
Using OSX for:
(a) iTunes and placing music on my Ipods etc
(b ) using FCP and/or iMovieHD
(c )general browsing
XP Pro for:
(a) voice dictation (Dragon Dictate 9)
(b ) most likely Word, Outlook etc for word processing and emails
(c ) some web browsing; and
(d) gaming (not much but mainly FPS's)
Would Bootcamp be better for my situation or would Parallels but okay.
I saw a demo of the latest version of Parallels running XP Pro in that 3d box cube environment which was impressive, and the fact that it is (or appears) to be instantaneous is good, however performance wise I am uncertain if Bootcamp would be better.
Your comments greatly appreciated.

If not for this then I'd say parallels all the way.....even then, depends on what fps you want to play.
but bassed on your needs it is 95% suited to parallels.

Parallels is supposed to support 3d acceleration in a future version, which will make gaming much better.
Apart from Outlook, why not just use Word and Excel in OSX? That way you get all the OSX niceties like being able to print PDFs from Word or Excel.

I'm with Bootcamp as it is free (after a few teething problems it is now working wonderful on my Macbook). I'm waiting to see what they do with Leopard. I don't want to purchase Parallels and find that they integrate it into 10.5

Parallels would be more convenient, but bootcamp would work.

Hi and thanks for the replies.
The reason I lumped Word and email in XP is because of the voice dictation. By that, I dictate straight into Word etc.
One other faxtor I didn't consider - is it possible to have Bootcamp and Parallels on the one computer?

Yes no problems.
You can use the same copy of Xp on both as well. Xp demands an activation code after a few weeks and you cant use the same code twice (for bootcamp & parallels), but you can ring Microsoft and explain that both copies of Xp are on the one machine & they seem happy to give a second activation code.

I'm not sure, but I think the answer is no. Parallels uses a disk image that it creates, i'm not sure if that disk image is the same or even compatable with a standard install. Probably a question to ask the manufacturers.
