So not Skype 2.whatever? Is this version identical to version 2.x on the PC?

The original post link is for version 1.5.0.47. The link to the beta from http://www.skype.com/download/skype/macosx/ is http://www.skype.com/download/skype/macosx/15beta.html which allows you to download the version 1.5.0.48. (for those who like the bleeding edge )

weird stuff going on 1.5.0.47 is labelled video preview and works with video, i installed 1.5.0.48 and all video disappeared. Think that they might be different betas or things are being updated quickly...

Yep, two different betas - one with video and one without. I noticed the sound quality to the test call is a lot better.

Anyone online want to try a quick video test?

No mention of video in the "What's new for Mac 1.5 BETA" either - which is the 1.5.0.48 version?

They don't have the video in the other version, as that brings the new enhancements in 1.5 without the flakiness of having video.

Just tried the video one and although the other party does not have a webcam, audio and video quality rocked according to his comments. Seems quite stable and not a memory hog for a preview as well.

Yeah, I had a video chat with someone in London last night. Looked good at my end. Although audio was a bit dodgy. Cutting in and out. But maybe the bandwidth wasn't there on my broadband upstream.

Just tried the Skype video-beta chatting with a PC user (Dell XP) and they received better video than we've managed to get with any other software (and it worked with an old USB webcam).

Call me silly, but when using Skype Video does that affect your upload/download usage allowance with your ISP?

I would say so! Not tried the video yet, but when I use it for voice calls my up/down speeds sit at 4KBps each, which works out at around 14Meg per hour both uploaded and downloaded (I think, feel free to correct me on my maths!)

I just tried the beta version with a friend in Indonesia. Although I dont have a camera yet, I could see them very clear and I also like the full screen mode! This looks like it might solve the cross platform video conferencing problem between mac and pcs if there is a video support version for pcs. Anyone know if its avail yet?
