Hi All,
Ever since 10.4.7 I've been unable to send or receive mail. I keep getting a message telling me that the port is not connecting to the optusnet server. my passwords are all correct. I've deleted the e-mail account and tried to re-enter all the information and now it's telling me there is a problem with the port. It's as though 10.4.7 has deactivated my e-mail ports. I'm also unable to connect to internet banking websites but at the same time I'm able to access other websites such as ATAU.
Any thoughts.
Terry.

What system are you running it on? If you're on an Intel Mac, have you updated to the re-released version of 10.4.7?

As my signature states I'm on an iMac G4. It's running on Tiger.

I think apple did a stupid thing to re-release 10.4.7. How are you meant to know which version you have installed, they should have named it somethig like 10.4.7.1 :P

Terry,
Could you kindly type in the exact error your iMac gives you regarding the port not connecting.
Cheers,
ClockWork
PS: You're using Mail, yes?

I erased the account as i thought i might just re-enter it in again. Now the server won't connect. So this is what I get when I enter in my username and password for the incoming mail server.
It basically tells me that the mail.optusnet.com.au mail server is not responding. I know for sure i've got all the right details entered. I share the connection with my son who has a G5 iMac and his settings are fine. Before i erased the account it was telling me there was an error with port 995.
Yes I'm using mail. :P

Terry,
Could you try the following:
1. Open Mail.
2. Click on the Mail menu and scroll down to Preferences...
3. Click on the Accounts tab. (If using Mail below version 2, skip steps 4 and 5 as the info should be here).
4. Select your Account name, and click on Edit.
5. Click the Account Options tab.
Now - what Port number is shown there, and is SSL ticked or unticked?

I erased the account as stated before. I can't open a new account as it won't let me past entering in my username and password. I use SSL but optus sopport it. So it can't be that. It looks as though I may have to re-install the OS.

Why won't it let you enter your Username and Password?
What is it saying or how is it stopping you?
Specifics, Terry?
Without being able to see exactly what it's saying (exactly) it's very difficult to help.
?

it's telling me that the mail.optusnet.com.au mail server is not responding. It's ok, I'll re-install the OS and see what that does.
thanks for your help.
Cheers.

You really shouldn't need to reinstall the OS. You should be able to type in your Username and your Password. It's either a problem with Mail, Optusnet, or your connection to your Modem.
However... from this angle - it actually appears you don't wish to rectify the problem in Mail. It appears you actually want to reinstall the OS.
As you wish then...

The re-released 10.4.7 simply re-added some OpenGL stuff that they left out of the original version for Intel.... whoops...

Hi
I also use Optusnet and use mail and these are the port settings I have which are still working
Incoming POP Server: Port 110
Outgoing SMTP Server: Port 25
It just works with these port numbers and I don't have ssl being used

Hi all,
Problem fixed. All I did was turn the modem off for about a minute and then back on and all is fine. Thanks for the help ClockWork. Much appreciated.
