I love referb. Actually, quick question, does an education discount work on the referb store?
EDU + Refurb = No

As far as I know it used to crash the site, or error the page out.

So no

I have bought iPods as refurb and my sister just bought a 20" iMac refurb. They look like new to me, in original boxes and all.

It's very likely that refurb are old left over stock of the previous model. None of the items I've seen as refurb look refurbished. They've all had original packaging, with the plastic covers and all the peripherals are new.

I'll go refurb from now on. And they are cheaper than education usually.

I have bought MBP and Macbooks refurbs and the came in original boxes and were fantastic.

I have just brought a refurbed imac as a gift and it came in a brown box but otherwise still packed in a virgin state. Lucky I had my imac box of the same model to replace the brown box before I wrapped it up.

love refurbs. soo cheap!

I bought my macbook pro refurb, an iPod mini and have just bought a 24" iMac refurb too. The MacBook Pro was in the original box but the mini came in a plain brown box.

Sometimes they are returned/warranty items but in a lot of cases they are jsut old stock that apple wants to clear out...e.g. they do a processor speed bump and want to get rid of all the older stuff.....so nothing really wrong with them at all.

Refurbs FTW!
Only problem is that most of the times the models are superseded so then your purchasing philosophy should be 'buy only what I need'.

Hey, i didn't want to create a new thread but i was just wondering how the 2.4ghz 24" Refurb model compares to the current 2.66ghz 20", in terms of speed. Both will be maxed out with 4gb of RAM.

And is the 2.8ghz 24" comparably faster than the two aforementioned? (2 or 4 gb) Is is worth they $500circa more?

Thanks.

2.66 current model is obviously faster than 2.4 prior model. Faster bus, faster MHz/better CPUs etc.

I would take the 24" screen over 20" though.

So if I had to buy today, I would buy a 2.8 current model 24"... but not 3.06 since I can't justify the extra $. Otherwise 2.4 refurb, 24". Maybe even a 2.8 Core 2 Extreme refurb, 24".

Is the difference in speed significantly noticeable? How do the numbers actually translate in terms of usability? The price is awfully enticing.

I haven't used any of the 1066MHz FSB iMacs, but I have an 800MHz one here and it is pretty snappy for what I use it for.

I think with 4GB of RAM it will be fine for everything you throw at it. Try Macworld for reviews but from memory I think it is not a big difference from current gen to former. Maybe 5% (I just made that up).
