Disposal? What do you do with Old Macs?
I have two old Macs which I won't be carrying with me when I travel overseas (soon).
What are my options?
Is there a place (in Melbourne) where I can dispose of them safely (to the environment)
or are there people who collect these old (working) Macs?
It's a Powerbook G3 (Edit: Wallstreet oops) and
a Performa 6200
Cheers!
(terrible things you can do to a Powerbook - paint the top cover with Hobby Paint )

There are plenty of people who collect old machines, in fact plenty of them are on this forum. I'd ask around on here, or if you want, you could go to the 68k Macintosh Liberation Army, sign up, and ask there - there's quite a few Melbourners on there, who would probably love a Lombard and/or a 6200.

You'll definitely get someone to take the Lombard. The 6200 was awful, but I'm sure some crazy collector out there will take one.

Sign up for Freecycle. Usually lots of people will pick up these things.

the Performa was good at the time I bought it ;-)
It was an upgrade from the LC and I asked them to include a TV card which my parents never knew about until about 2 years later when they noticed I was watching TV on it ...
ah sweet memories ...

I paid an extra couple of thousand yen when I bought my iBook in Japan so that I could just call a number and someone would come and collect it for recycling. I should call the number now and ask them to pick up from Perth, Western Australia. Before midday please.

There are a bunch of computer recycling mobs in Aus. Do some googling if you do want to recycle. That's far better than dumping the machine or leaving it on the curb for council pickup.

For the record, that PowerBook is actually a WallStreet, not a Lombard. The Lombard didn't have the old-skool Apple logo, and had USB instead of serial and ADB ports.

Cheers, I always get the two confused, one had the Bronze Keyboard one didn't. I got the one which didn't ... I remember being so annoyed at not getting a USB port I have to get a PCMCIA card :/

I will take the powerbook off your hands.
Apple also takes ALL old apple computers, working or not.
