trouble patching dvd firmware black macbook

hey guys i asked ths question in the dvd firmware thread but i think people dont answer that thread so i will re-post it here ...

i am trying to apply the firmware to a core2 duo black macbook which has a UJ-857D KBVB dvvd drive, i have changed to system version to 10.4.9 but i still cant open the firmware patch files ... they just dont open ... i double click but it never opens ... the only thing i can think of is that the macbook has recently been serviced and had the logic board replaced and at the moment it has no serial ... would this interfere with the firmware patch?

I do not believe so. Please supply a picture grab of the about this mac, more hardware info screen (which shows the optical drive info). Then also show us a screen grab of the firmware file your trying to run.

The hack to change your system version does not work for everyone. Worked for me on only one Mac at home, not the rest.

xfodder, as i said in the other thread, you may get more help by posting in the RPC1 forums, just a quick browse on this thread turned up similar issues to what you describe - RPC1

i am also a little unsure what you mean by saying the files cant 'open' - it doesnt visibly open, just runs and installs the new firmware.
