iMac's Too Bright???
OMG! My eyes hurts!
I'm using my girlfriend iMac in my studio at night and while with my old iMac (2004) I only needed a small light to work with, with the new (6 months old) iMac I need to have all ights on as the screen is very bright and it doesn't allow me to reduce the brightness too much.
Has anyone encountered the same Issue???
I believe it is such a waste of energy as now I need to have 2 lights on.
Why the iMac doesn't allow to turn the brightess at a lower level so I can work in the room with low light condition?

I am using a 24" iMac (2.4GHz Alu) at full brightness. It is the only source of light in the room. It's fine for my eyes.
And you can turn down the brightness if it really hurts your eyes.

My girlfriend finds the 24" iMac way too bright, even on the lowest setting. I on the other hand, like it pumped up to the max like Huy, using it as a primary light source in the room

I like all of my machines maxed out. I just can't work with dim settings (even on half brightness).
That's why I carry the power adapter with me, for MBA, MB, etc... I can run it at full brightness to do work. Loving it. I also don't have to worry about running out of battery power if I am working on a laptop.

full brightness is too bright for me. I usually run screens at about 25% although the 23" ACD I bought recently is borderline too bright at its minimum setting.
Horses for courses but i think it's a limitation of the CCFL's being used. A software solution may be the go but not sure if such a product exists.

same full brightness kills my eyes, even the lowest brightness is too bright for me? has this got anything to do with the fact that i am short sighted?

I am short sighted as well. So it shouldn't. I also sit pretty close to my screen (but about an arm's length away).

Give it time. I used to run my 23"ACD on 4 bars of brightness when new last year. Exactly 12 months later I run it on full brightness. Dims very quickly over the first 6 months.
Have you considered wearing sunglasses? Not as dumb as it sounds.

I have my MacBook on full. I find that, like Huy and Decryption, having it as a light source is easy on the eyes. Cannot handle it when it is even remotely dimmed, and can tell in a heartbeat - i wish it was brighter, actually.

Ha ha ha I'm not a Mac Nerd bro! Ha ha ha...
I've ben using Macs for 5-6 years... Plus PC's for 22 years...
I was complaining why I cannot turn the brightness more down, again if I wish to work almost in dark I can with my old iMac while with the new one is impossible as the screen is far too bright even with brightness completely turned on lower.
Maybe I should put sun glasses on? Hahaha..
No, really, such a useless consumption of energy...

Maybe is because the iMac I'm using is a massive 24" and I'm probably too close (45cm) but I've a very small desk... :P

I am exactly one arm's length away from touching the screen with my fingernails.

Low light causes eye strain.
If you're using energy saver light bulbs the consumption isn't that high compared to the energy consumption of the computer itself.

Geez, you lot might as well be staring into the sun. I like to run my setup with plenty of warm ambient light, and the brightness is down to the bare minimum, and I prefer to use a light-on-dark approach wherever possible.
