Hi guys,
I had the same issue with my 24" and even with the OSx controls set to the lowest it would black out my vision the same shape as the monitor when walking around the house at night.

I installed "brightness control"(I think thta its name, i'll check when I get home) and perfect, you can dull the screen right down so even in extremely low light you wont burn your eyes out.

It's a must have for the big screens.

In my personal experience I've found I have to work my eyes harder to read in low light. That said I don't have my screens all blazing and lights on super-bright in the room. Typically I just have one random light in the room on and the screen at nearly the darkest setting. I tend to use a setting that gives good contrast for text etc.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, including the software ones.
As soon as I'll be at my girlfriend house again I will try the software & the display calibration, altough I'm happy with the maximum brightness (for movies, etc.) but very unhappy with the minimum one.
And no, it is not the contrast...
Thanks again to everyone!

The minimum brightness is too bright??? You're crazy!

I can't stand anything but full brightness.
