Question iMac G5 problem

Hi All,
First post and it's a problem, bugger.

I've got a problem with my iMac G5. When I press the power button it gets to the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning thing but no further. If I hold shift for safe mode it gets past this to the blue screen but again, no further.

For a while now it has been used only as a TV with EyeTV and hasn't even been connected to the internet. And in January I formatted it and installed leopard and eyetv and that's just about it. So I'm pretty certain it isn't a software problem.

I thought it might be the hard drive but I plugged a firewire cable into it and my macbook and loaded it up as a slave hard drive and it came up fine on my macbook's desktop.

So I've really got no idea what's wrong with it apart from thinking it's probably a hardware problem. Has anyone experienced this before?

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely software.

Done any software updates lately? Try an Archive and Install.

Can you boot off your Leopard install DVD? If so then it is software. If not then there is potentially a hardware issue.

Nah I haven't installed anything since Jan. It hasn't even been connected to the internet.

I'm going to try a clean install today but I don't think it will work considering it had one three months ago and it's only got one program installed.

Thanks

It managed to load the Leopard install DVD. Will see in an hour or so whether a clean install worked.

Clean install seems to have worked. I haven't installed anything yet but it gets into OSX which I presume means it isn't a hardware problem.

Thanks all.
