New iMac Today: Very excited (!), but then . . .

MacBook Air arrived this morning: the same day as my new 24" 2.8Ghz iMac!! I was like a kid on a double Christmas . . .

The MBA is fantastic . . . no problems there . . . but . . .

The iMac is s . . l. . o . . w.

Even as I'm typing this, there is a noticeable lag. I've found it in Mail and Pages as well. Scrolling in Safari is kinda clunky, not smooth. When I drag an open window, it kinda appears jagged and 'pixelated' (hard to describe, but not smooth, like on my old 2.0Ghz G4 iMac).

I've got 2Gb of RAM, so what's going on? Any clues anyone. It's right out of the box, running OS 10.5.2.

Thanks, Andrew

run all the software updates, make sure everything is up to date

ring apple support, they can go through some things over the phone with you
to determine if it is software / hardware problem

What's fragmentation . . . and why would it affect a new computer?

Is there anything to download in software update?

Ignore me. I didn't read that it wasn't a new computer.

Quite possible that its a hardware fault somewhere, could even be the graphics chipset then again do what game on said. There could be the leopard graphics update to do yet.

Yep - this did the trick; nice and speedy now! Thanks.

What does that update do? It's funny, cos I swear that it's (slightly) lower resolution now that the update's installed . . . can anyone explain if that's just my imagination?

Andrew

Yeah I did notice that some of the "shadows" were slightly blotchy. Nothing that I lost sleep over though.

Just note that the first Spotlight and Time Machine updates can be very slow.
