Question Anyone bought from Modtech Computers

Hi,

Noticed these guys were asking $3,749.00 inc GST for the Mac Pro 2.8GHz Two Quad Xeon/ 2x1GB/ 320GB/ SuperDrive unit.

That's $250 cheaper than CompNow and they won't price match - just asked them.

Has anyone purchased from this company? Any good or bad ratings?

Thanks,

GeoffP.

I'd stick with the companies we all know Geoff. Unless you are willing to take the risk.

What risk is that wally? We're not a 3rd world country. Some common sense helps here. Is it a new, un-opened machine? Is it a single machine or their regular price?

Modtech in Malvern? They were not far from me.

For what it's worth, I used to buy some PC's from them well over a decade ago. (No - I used macs even then when I could, but had some specialised equipment that needed a pc). They used to do a good job configuring them for me and were always competitively priced on components (HDs etc.)
They were always reliable back then, and if they've survived with the same owners, you would think they must be doing something right. Are they an authorised Apple reseller now? I wonder when they started selling Macs?

They're fine, I bought some hardware there recently, and whilst I was concious that I've never bought there before everything was as promised and at a good price. Still, that was just one experience but based on it, I'd go back.

Just checked their web site again. Says they are an Apple Authorised Reseller.
Rang them up to check, he sad "been Apple Reseller Long Time".

Priced a Mac Pro 2.8 stock standard but with the 8800 GPU instead. Their price was $4,845

I'm throwing my steering wheel in the opposite direction.

As I said, it's been well over a decade since I purchased from them, and they were just a pc shop then, but I would have bought more than half a dozen machines from them, and they were good. And as I said, if they've lasted this long, they must be doing something right!

That is the lowest price I have seen. Can you post the resellers url? Also, was it an advertised price, or did you haggle them down.

Thanks.

What happens with any type of warranty claim. Do you make it back at the store you purchased from, or direct from apple?

No. They seem like a mix of Windows and other PC business but they do deal in Apple products. Guy quoted me about AUD280 for 4G of RAM for a Macbook. I would imagine that once you've bought the computer you can go to any Apple authorised service centre for warranty service if you prefer.
