Needing a bit of help here.

I was playing around with the settings on a clean-up program called Cocktail last night on a friend's powerbook, and must have set it to Single User Boot.

This morning after turning on the Pbook, my friend rings me and describes a black screen with jargon on it similar to DOS...(the comparison is slightly insulting, but because she was panicking I couldn't say much..lol). Anyway, this is what the part that was understandable said:

Code:
Fri Feb 18 12:59:17 EST 2005
Singleuser boot *-- fsck not done
Root device is mounted read-only
If you want to make modifications ot files,
run '/sbin/fsck -y' first and then '/sbin/mount -uw /'
localhost:/ root# *<-- Around here I typed in /sbin/fsck -y and the following is what happened

**/dev/rdisck0s3
**Root file system
**Checking HFS Plus volume
fsck_hfs: Volume is journaled. No checking performed.
fsck_hfs: Use the -f option to force checking
localhost:/ root#
Soooooooo....since it's my fault the Pbook turned out this way..and it's not even mine.. I need urgent help to decipher all this, and how to get it back to the normal set up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ahhhhhhhh..

Well, this is embarassing. After looking around the net I came across this site

http://www.securemac.com/macosxsingleuser.php

and uh..after typing exit it booted up fine, and I was able to disable Single User boot in Cocktail.

Uh..now that this whole crisis has been fixed, I might as well make the topic useful and post some sites regarding this Single User boot for future reference.

Could one of the mods lock this topic please?

Simplest way: get your powerbook's hardware diagnostic CD, boot to that, and repair permissions using the Disk Utility (found listed under one of the menus).
