Diagnostic on FW800 Powermac G5 port

Hi.

Does anyone know of any type of diagnostic I can do to see if a problem exists with my FW800 port?

I have an external drive with USB, FW400 and a pair of FW800 ports. Works perfectly on the first two, but the FW800 ports quite ofter won't mount. If they do mount, it will never just disappear (until I dismount it of course).

Problem for me is, I don't have another FW800 box to try, or cable.

Thanks for your input.

I'd try a different cable first. I had some trouble with a USB extension cable that would run just about everything but the printer where, I believe, it was picking up electrical 'noise' and behaving erratically (Yes I know he was asking about firewire but the theory should be the same I hope).
