Is this computer any good?

Hey guys, Looking to buy my first mac (I use them at work though) just was thinking about getting one second hand as the only programs I want to use are: Shake and FCP and maybe some Garage band...

Is this computer anygood? good enough to run those programs?

PowerMac G5 (Early 2005) Dual 2.3 GHz
- Video: ATI Radeon 9650XT 256MB
- Hard drive 1: Hitachi Deskstar 400GB 7200 rpm
- Hard drive 2: Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB 7200 rpm
- RAM: 5GB (2 x 512MB + 4 x 1GB) - 8 slots - 2 open
- Optical drive: Superdrive (DVD-/+R, DVD-/+RW, CD-RW, CD-R)
- USB 2.0, Firewire 400/800
- Airport Express
- Bluetooth
- 3 PCI-X expansion slots
- Macally 4-port USB PCI card

Also, If you have any computer on offer (CHEAP) please msg me!

Thanks Guys!
-Chris

From memory we were using something very similar at Griffith Uni in the editing suites... so yeah, that should be fine for blasting away in Final Cut Pro... (I think they were only 2Ghz...)

soada, get it! It's a brilliantly spec'd box. Something like that on the open market would sell for up near the $2k mark.

If that computer can surf the net, let you write, use spreadsheets and help you then it is a good computer. The specs are sweet.

they are asking about 1200 for it, but I'm going to try for 1000

Thanks for all the input guys! your ace!

Means I'll have to buy a PC as well (my current one is dying), but I can build an ACE pc for 1000, so all up 2000 for both. I will be able to use the same monitor and keyboard/mouse yes? if they are USB that is..

I Think thats a better deal than buying a new Intel mac and running 2 OS's on it..

$1200 is damn good value for that machine. I use a similar one for a lot of my work and find it pretty good until it comes down to crunching video. Shake and FCP can be REALLY intensive for the computer... but for $1200 or so you will not get a quicker machine off ebay... or in here. If that machine was offered up in the trading forum it would be gone!

I'm pretty sure using Shake is a little more demanding than spreadsheets
