iMac Mghty Mouse problem

Hi Guys (and gals)

I have an IMac and have not experienced any issues untill today.

The bluetooth Mouse will not scroll up on the vertical axis. It will scoll on all other axis
such as down and left to right. All other mouse functions work okay.

I have reset the mouse in Preferences and still no luck.

I have also downloaded the latest updates and wonder if this maybe the issue.

Has anyone on the forum experienced this problem?

I have had that happen before and all I have done to fix it is lick my finger and scroll it in the directions you want. Might only be dirty contacts.

Mighty mouse's always suffer that problem at some point. You get a build up of dust and other dirt under the scroll ball thingy.
One thing to try is turning the mouse upside down and running the scroll ball along a peice of paper to try and get rid of the dirt

iSlayer is right - have had the same problem and followed what others did.
The best solution (temp as it is) is to turn it upside down and roll the ball vigorously around whilst pressing fairly hard. Also a jet of comp. air or even blowing helps but Apple's solution was the above and it worked for me. These mice are designed beautifully aesthetically but woefully in pracical terms. I have kept the MM for posterity and now use a quality wheelmouse for the hard work.

Over the weekend my MM decided that it wasn't going to be scrolling anymore, regardless of the amount of cleaning.

I called Apple today and they gave me a case number and said take it to an Apple Centre to swap it over. I took it to Mac1 in Fyshwick and they just took the mouse.. No replacement. Nothing. "5-7 days" was the answer when I asked how long it'd take to get my mouse back.

Went and got myself the 4 button MS wireless notebook laser mouse 6000 for $70. Configured all the buttons for dashboard and expose and I'm happy as now, but what's the story with either Apple or Mac1 not just giving me a new mouse or anything? Do they just expect people have another mouse or to use the keyboard for a week or more??

Lame

1.You need to be more assertive with some of these stores. If they can fob you off they will, they should have replaced it on the spot, and I would not have taken no for an answer.

2.With regard to cleaning my Mighty Mouse, a moist cloth and a vigorous rub in all directions every few days keeps him (and me) happy.

The only reason I didn't push the issue was that I had to buy a new mouse anyway for my MBP which should be here this week or early next week. Wanted to get the mouse fixed or replaced before selling my iMac.

Just thought it was pretty poor they didn't just replace it.

After 12 months, my scrollball would not work either up or down. I tried the cleaning method suggested by Apple, and it didn't work. I found the following link on the web with instructions on how to pull apart the MM and clean it completely. It was a bid tricky (I have not computer expirence), but I managed to get it apart, clean it (you should have seen the amount of crude in there) and get it back together. It now works fine. So if all else fails, then pulling the MM apart is the way to go. (Assuming your warranty is over)

I found a solution for the Mighty Mouse issue...

I REPLACED IT !

I've now got a Logitech MX620 cordless (USB stick goes into side of keyboard) - much better and you can customise the buttons for Mac (they have support for it, yay)

I used some torn-off bits of an old sheet, and one had a little detergent soaked in, the other I used to 'rinse' the ball back, and the last to dry the ball. Now it's even the same colour as when I got it (grey, not brown)!

i too am starting to have the same problem after 6 months. I would replace it if it wasn't for the fact i love the vertical scroll. Do you guys eat food around your keyboard and mouse? I try not to, but it's difficult when you use your computer as a tele

The thing to avoid is using the same index finger for scrolling as you do for picking your nose.

Basically Mac1 isn't an Apple Store, its re-seller. Because Apple themselves organise the product exchange the original mouse has to be sent off to them before a new item can be issued
